Starting in fall 2017 Sasha Mäkilä serves as the Artistic Director of the Helsinki Metropolitan Orchestra. Helsinki Metropolitan Orchestra (HMO) was founded in the summer of 2017 by 60 enthusiastic players – professionals, students and amateurs – together with conductor Sasha Mäkilä and pianist Alina Sorjonen. The orchestra serves the whole Helsinki metropolitan region and gives symphonic concerts in various locations, plays opera (two productions coming up in 2018), gives masterclasses, and tours. The two next concerts will take place in Kauniainen on Dec 29, 2017 and in Helsinki on Jan 3, 2018.
