Oct 21, 2013

This year’s Great Mountains Music Festival, the most prestigious classical music summer event in South Korea, invited maestro Sasha Mäkilä to be the festival conductor and in this capacity to conduct both the GMMFS Festival Orchestra as well as his own ensemble St. Michel Strings during this 10th anniversary of the event. The festival took place in Alpensia, Pyeongchang Jul 14 – Aug 6, 2013.

During the festival maestro Mäkilä conducted the two orchestras in six concerts featuring selections of Nordic composers from Grieg to Sibelius, as well as collaborated with the Korean National Chorus in performances of Poulenc’s Gloria and select opera choruses by Verdi to a critical acclaim. The final concert of the GMMFS Festival Orchestra featured one of the artistic directors of the festival Kyung-Wha Chung together with violist Maxim Rysanov as soloists of Mozart’s Sinfonia Concertante.
